The AYBS Alumni Association successfully hosted a reunion and 100-year celebration in August 10th 2024 at a park in Virginia. The event was widely promoted across social media platforms, including Telegram and WhatsApp groups, leading to 71 RSVPs via an online form. Ultimately, about 55 alumni attended from various states such as Los Angeles, Texas, Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania, with some extending their vacations from Ethiopia and Dubai to join the festivities.
The reunion brought together alumni from various generations, spanning from the 1960s—when the school was a boarding institution—to the 2000s, when the school adopted its current name. The association provided an array of merchandise, including t-shirts, mugs, mouse pads, and magnets featuring the school's celebration and biblical verses, which were pre-ordered by attendees.
Event planning and organization were spearheaded by a team of eight former students, including three medical doctors who contributed health information materials and brochures. The event featured food, drinks, and snacks for sale to help offset the costs of the celebration.
The primary goals of the event were to introduce the AYBS Alumni Association in the U.S., foster connections among local alumni, and collaborate on supporting current students. The event was deemed a success based on positive feedback received on-site and responses to a post-event survey. Looking ahead, the association aims to hold similar reunions annually, strengthening alumni networks and identifying resources needed to support current students.
